If corona virus has taught us anything it’s just how easily and readily we come into contact with germs everyday.

From door handles to the London Underground, we’re all exposed to potential infection all the time. Some germs are definitely better at causing illness than others but having a tip top immune system goes a long way to keeping you healthy. Here’s some key nutrients that can help.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C increases the production of infection-fighting white blood cells and antibodies and increases levels of interferon, the protein that coats cell surfaces, preventing the entry of viruses. Black currants, kiwis, citrus fruits and green leafy vegetables are all rich in vitamin C. However, much of this is lost in the cooking process. Where possible eat vitamin C rich food raw or minimally cooked, for example in a stir fry or smoothie.

Zinc

Zinc increases the production of white blood cells that fight infection and helps them fight more aggressively. It also increases killer cells that fight against infected cells. Most nuts and seeds are a good source of zinc, as well as seafood.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D modulates the immune system balancing its activity to ensure effective immune response while limiting the potential for a damaging, over zealous inflammatory response. The best way to get vitamin D is through regular, sensible sun exposure. Take a walk at lunch time or eat lunch in the garden.

The Botanical Boutique Immune Support Tincture can do this and more. It has immune stimulating herbs within it to both fight imminent infection and up regulate immune function. So coupled with a good diet you can feel confident you are doing the best you can.
